I totally agree that when an industry, especially one that an entire area relies on, needs to be phased out then there should be a better plan for it. The area I came from was shipbuilding centric and when that declined the government in the UK just pulled the plug and the effect it had on the area is felt to this day. Definitely a balanced approach with the ability to access vital social safety nets is needed and also retraining these workers should be a priority.
