The Small Things We Miss From Our Youth
For the first time in all the years this podcast has been running, after hundreds of episodes, the thing everyone thought would never happen has finally happened. Jamie and Milo are recording in the same location. That’s right, no global separation this time. They’re hanging out in Milo’s living room, talking about the little things from their youth that they miss, and you might miss too.
This episode is proudly sponsored by Gray Skies, Concrete Dreams a novel by Milo Denison

Great fun episode with a lot of nostalgic feelings. I recently bought a cheap set from a Lego competitor. It’s fun to build it although sitting on the floor is a bit painful^^. Lego were among my few good childhood memories, I always was super excited when I got a pirate ship or a castle or a space ship for my birthday.

One thing I miss is being excited about watching a new episode that airs at a certain time. Some aired only weekly, some daily. You were excited about new movies and shows. Because of limitations. Also new CDs or compliations. Now it’s Everything Everywhere all at once all the time. You don’t own most of the media and therefor you don’t have a real world memory of it. Going to the store, to the movies, it’s a real world connection.

The video store is a weird one as well. We got it so much better today, and it is so much cheaper to get a movie. For me, renting movies was time consuming because I was living in the country. But if you would live in a city, that could be great. Having basically every movie ever available is both great and boring. I still try to go to the movies like 3-5x a year. Rarely with friends but I should ask them more often.

I have a very standardized alarm clock because I overslept once and I don’t trust my phone 100%. Better safe than sorry. The phone booth thing is weird. Maybe I have used them 3 times in my life. Although I was without a (good) mobile phone for a long time. I don’t miss it obviously but it makes me somehow nostalgic for a much simpler time. 3rd spaces, interaction with the environment, you cannot miss something that wasn’t yet invented but you will use smartphones and the net no matter what.
